Step-by-Step Registration Process:

  • Click correct Sign-Up button above to sign-up for class of interest
  • ​Register on MindBody (you will receive an email from ADAPT Training with instructions)
  • ​Receive auto-reply email from ADAPT Training asking you to complete two more steps before the first class (steps below)
  • ​Register in advance for Zoom sessions to receive meeting link
  • ​Complete survey of personal information & medical history

Program most suitable for:

  • Wheelchair Users 
  • ​No current Upper Body Injuries 
  • ​With limited core stability and weakness
  • ​Requires no assistance to lift both arms in various directions:
       - Out to your side
       - Across your body
       - In front of you
       - Behind you
       - Overhead

What you'll need:

  • Approximately 6’ x 6’ space
  • Laptop, tablet, phone with camera
  • ​Zoom Program
  • ​Gait belt or waist belt if needed for core stability to wrap around body and chair
  • Weights are recommended, but not required
  • ​If you have minimal to no grip, we recommend 1 pair of adjustable velcro wrist weights 
  • ​If you have grip, we recommend 1-2 sets of dumbbells (2-10lbs) or household items (see below)

First, some questions…

   - How are you doing with the stay at home order?
   - Have you been able to consistently get good workouts in?
   - And most importantly, how is your body feeling?

We get it. This is a tough time as we are adjusting to the current situation. Most of our schedules and rhythms are out of balance, including our workouts.  

We also know the worst thing for any of us right now is to let “stay at home” mean “stay inactive”, which is why ADAPT Advanced is offering our new virtual SitStrong live workout programs for wheelchair users that will help you get stronger and feel better.

The SitStrong Program provides 30-minute workouts offered 3x/week:

Helpful Household Equipment Options:
  • 1 lb - canned goods, a bottle of vinegar, salad dressing
  • ​2-3 lbs - bottle of wine
  • ​4-5 lbs - small bag of pet food, a small bag of potatoes or a medium bag of rice
  • ​8 lbs - a gallon of water or milk
  • ​10 lbs - a large bottle of laundry detergent
If appropriate for you, we recommend:

  • 1 Gait belt OR Long waist belt if needed for core stability to wrap around body and chair
  • 1 Assistant to help with upper body exercises or adding/removing weights from your wrists
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below are some common questions about the SitStrong Program to help you decide whether this class is right for you...
Will the SitStrong Program meet my physical abilities and needs?
Through our nearly 14 years of training wheelchair users (including top Paralympians), we know that everyone has different fitness and ability levels. It is our goal to structure challenging workouts for you. If you want to elevate the intensity of our workouts, we recommend keeping weights accessible so you can quickly use them. We will also offer modifications during the workouts, so various ability-levels can participate.
What if I can’t make all the workouts?
We encourage you to join us for as many of the workouts that fit into your schedule. If you miss a live workout, we recommend that you perform the Shoulder Maintenance Routine 5x in a row for a 30-minute workout.  We are also recording each workout and will be sending it out so that you can perform on your own.
I am worried my shoulders won’t hold up – how can I avoid overuse and burnout?
To help your muscles recover and improve mobility after each workout, you will receive a complimentary Shoulder Maintenance Routine (both assisted and unassisted versions available). We recommend performing this routine 1x each morning and evening as your schedule allows.
